Some people think venture capital is a gamble; but gambling makes no sense, it should be about trying to identify companies with the DNA for success, based on evidence that their idea can work.
Investors shouldn’t just rely on ‘finding a bigger fool’, for their exit plan. They should focus on identifying great teams and ideas.
When we backed companies like US letting portal Zumper or cloud-based banking platform Oradian, we saw firms with an idea, a market, and the talent and ability to implement a plan. As investors, we provided the finance and let the talented team execute the idea.
Tech investing is not for the fainthearted or the amateur investor. Done right it can help identify the businesses that will underpin the UK economy for generations to come.
